Ms Suu Kyi's house arrest for breaching conditions of her detention
- She didnt breach as she didnt invite that US national to visit her home. And people belives it is just a plot to keep her away from politics when the so-called fair and square election to be held in 2010. Yeah, they can put her away from public eye. Though, she is always in everyone's mind if it is about politics, democracy, election and anti-junta movement or junta's dirty plans.

Myanmar National Soccer team
- In SEA Games 2009 which was held in Laos for about 3 weeks, soccer is the most interested sport. People expected highest achievements in both Men's and Women's soccer team. Though, Men's team couldnt even qualify the group stage and Women's team just got bronze medal. Anyway, way to go, ladies.

World Soccer
- I only know about English Premier League news. And the most exciting news sure is Christiano Ronaldo's Transfer fees and Michael Owen's transfer to Mancher United. The other strange thing is Emmanuel Adebayor's behavior in the match between Manchester City and Arsenal, his former team. During the play, he kicked his old team mate Van Persie in the face acting like an accident and ran the full length of the football field to Arsenal supporters to celebrate his goal.

Been a while

It's been a while I haven't posted new ones. This morning, I was looking for some information on process and thread in computer science terms. There, I found some funny meaning regarding process states.

If a process needs to wait for a resource (wait for user input or file to open ...), it is assigned the "blocked" state. The process state is changed back to "waiting" when the process no longer needs to wait.

Why would that state go back to waiting if the process no longer needs to wait? Actually, it means it doesn't have to wait for the I/O process anymore and will wait the instructions from process scheduler or processor.

Sydney Red Sky

The outback dust storm has swept across eastern Australia, shrouding Sydney in a dramatic red glow.

It's also been wreaking havoc, disrupting transport and placing health authorities on alert for widespread respiratory illness.

International flights were diverted from Sydney, ferries on the harbour were suspended, and motorists were warned to take care on roads as visibility was dramatically reduced.

Haeundae (2009)

The first disaster movie of South Korea. It was released in Korea on 22nd July, 2009.

[Plot]
Located on the southeast tip of the Korean peninsula is the international city of Busan. A popular vacation spot on the East Sea coast, Haeundae draws one million visitors to its beaches every year. Man-sik, a native of Haeundae, lost a co-worker to a tsunami on a deep-sea fishing trip four years ago. He has never returned to sea ever since. He now leads a simple life running a small seafood restaurant and is preparing to propose to his longtime girlfriend, Yeon-hee. Man-sik’s brother Hyung-sik works as a coast guard. One day, he rescues a female college student from Seoul who promptly, comes on to him aggressively. While these everyday domestic affairs unfold, geologist Kim Hwi, an expert on tsunami research, discovers the East Sea is showing signs of activity similar to the Indian Ocean at the time of the 2004 tsunami. Despite his warnings, the Disaster Prevention Agency affirms that Korea is in no harm of being hit. When he discovers a mega-tsunami is headed straight for the Korean peninsula, he quickly heads down to Haeundae. There he meets up with his ex-wife, who is organizing a cultural event, for the first time in seven years. He also sees his young daughter who is unaware that he is her father. Eventually, Kim gets a call about a deadly oncoming wave, with only ten minutes to spare! While the vacationers and citizens of Busan are enjoying a peaceful, hot summer day, a mega-tsunami is headed straight for Haeundae at 500 miles per hour.

The movie is interesting according to the reviews. Plus Ha Ji Won is in it. :)

1408 (2007)

Recently, I read a good review about this movie 1408 and looking for it. The author is not able to sleep that night after watching it and many good things. :)

WiMAX module for the ns-2 simulator

Whew! Another interest. I have to go back to ns-2.28 to run WiMax simulation. Though, the first try is a mess. Installing ns-allinone-2.28 is a piece of cake. Just needed to apply a patch to nam-1.11. nam is working fine before updating the package with WiMax modules. After the update, it freezes even with the simple tcl programs. Gotta try more. May be it is because of Windows. It may work in Fedora.

Another 1 1/2 year of house arrest

Ms Aung San Suu Kyi
In May 2009, as the latest period of detention was due to expire, the NLD appealed to the government to release her, saying she was suffering from low blood pressure and dehydration, but the appeal was rejected.

Shortly after, a US national was arrested for swimming across a lake and breaking into her compound.

Then, a few days later, Ms Suu Kyi was herself arrested and charged with breaching the conditions of her detention, although the man had apparently not been invited to visit.

After a trial, she was convicted and sentenced to a further 18 months of house arrest.

Critics say the arrest and continued detention were designed to keep her away from the public eye until elections scheduled to take place in 2010.

The sentence was roundly condemned by the international community.

Come on, be a man. Sissies!!

Bart Got a Room isnt the first movie comedy about nerds, high school, and the senior prom, and it undoubtedly wont be the last. For Danny Stein (Steven J. Kaplan), a high school student in Hollywood, Florida, the imminence of the prom is the source of considerable distress; even more distressing is the prospect of booking of a hotel room for himself and his date at the end of the evening. Problem is, Danny (whos a bit of a schlub, but far from a total, like, loser), doesnt have a date yet. The obvious choice is his best friend Camille (Alia Shawkat), whos available and clearly interested, but Danny thinks he can do better--say, with Alice (Ashley Benson), the sophomore hottie who drives to school with him every day. Wrong. As the days, then the hours, dwindle down, Danny, whose parents separation is an added distraction (William H. Macy and Cheryl Hines are perfect as Ernie, whos looking for love on the internet, and Beth, who has a new beau), realizes hes in big trouble, not least because even the titular Bart--a geek so geeky he makes Danny look like Tom Cruise--already has the room thing covered. All of this plays out in ways that are neither surprising nor especially hilarious, but the movie has heart, not to mention a number of cute, quirky scenes (many involving Dannys well-intentioned, but mostly clueless, family). Movies like Bart Got a Room arent really about the destination, anyway; theyre about the journey, and this ones a fun ride.


As a comedy, this movie does not have much interesting things. The funny thing is when I first saw Camille and Stein in front of the class, I thought she is the teacher. Though I do not like it much, I memorized a few quotes. Here they are.


Stein: Craig, he was brainwashing me. He was...
Camille: God, you're in control of your own life.


Stein: We can't choose our memories.

Solar Eclipse on July 22, 2009

22nd July, Wednesday. It can be visible totally from the following areas and countries, central and northeastern India, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, China, Ryukyu Islands and partially from Southeast Asia, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia, Central Pacific Ocean area and its islands.

Though, I was hanging out with my friends at that time and didnt even notice much as it was a very cloudy day. It was like gonna rain and we were not able to see a thing in the sky except dark clouds. What a shame. Anyway, it did rain that day.

It's been a while I posted. During my absence, I was going all crazy on Facebook. When I first created the account, I just want to share a network with my friends. Though, I ended up playing Mafia Wars. It is the third game on the Internet. Anyway, I just set an aim in MW and I will leave that game at once I achieve it. Am I serious? Yes, I think I am. :P

While playing Mafia Wars, I have to read some blogs or guides on items, properties, fights, etc. And found some funny youtube movies related to facebook. And here they are.

General Aung San

General once described his kids.

"The eldest, Nga Oo, is dignified and has an amazing memory compared to his age. Accordiing to this, he might follow his father's footsteps. Nga Lin, the younger one, seems to be happy-go-lucky type. He could even be an insubordinate when he grows up. Nevertheless, my baby girl (Su) is going to be the smartest one ever. It is not easy that having one kid each year regularly since we got married four years ago, though."

Gen Aung San said those while smiling.

He is 50% right about his children, IMHO. Aung San Oo became a doodlehead deviated from his expectation. And his daughter, Aung San Suu Kyi became a smart lady who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991 and the beloved leader..

Martyrs' Day

On July 19, 1947 Burma's Independence leaders were gunned down by a group of armed men in uniform while they were holding a cabinet meeting at what was known as 'The Secretariat' in downtown Yangon. The assassinations were planned by a rival political group, and the leader and alleged master-mind of that group Galon U Saw, together with the perpetrators, were tried and convicted by a special tribunal presided by U Kyaw Myint with two other Barristers-at-law, U Aung Thar Gyaw and U Si Bu. In a judgment given on December 30, 1947 the tribunal sentenced U Saw and a few others to death and the rest were given prison sentences. Appeals to the High Court of Burma by U Saw and his accomplices were rejected on March 8, 1948. In a judgment written by Supreme Court Justice U E Maung (1898-1977) on April 27, 1948 the Supreme Court (the highest court under the 1947 Constitution of the Union of Burma) refused leave to appeal against the original judgment.

The President of Burma Sao Shwe Thaik refused to pardon or commute the sentences of most of those who were sentenced to death, and U Saw was hanged inside Rangoon's Insein jail on May 8, 1948. A number of perpetrators met the same fate. Others, who had played relatively minor roles and were sentenced to various terms of imprisonment, also spent several years in prison. The assassinated cabinet members were General Aung San, Thakin Mya, Dedoke U Ba Cho, Abdul Razak, U Ba Win (oldest brother of Aung San and father of the leader of the National League for Democracy government-in-exile Dr Sein Win), Mahn Ba Khaing and Saopha of Mong Pawng. Cabinet secretary U Ohn Maung and a bodyguard called Maung Htwe were also killed in the shooting.

"Nocturne" was the winning song in the Eurovision Song Contest 1995, performed in Norwegian by Secret Garden representing Norway. In the contest, it had received 148 points, placing 1st in a field of 23.

The song is noted for its relative absence of lyrics - with only 24 words being sung in the original Norwegian version and much of the rest of the song being given over to a violin intermezzo performed by guest Irish musician Fionnuala Sherry. While no other victorious song has featured so few words, Finland would go on to place 15th in the 1998 Contest with "Aava", which contains only six words repeated throughout the song.

A nocturne (from the French for "nocturnal") is usually a musical composition that is inspired by, or evocative of, the night. Historically, nocturne is a very old term applied to night Offices and, since the Middle Ages, to divisions in the canonical hour of Matins.

The name nocturne was first applied to pieces in the eighteenth century, when it indicated an ensemble piece in several movements, normally played for an evening party and then laid aside. Sometimes it carried the Italian equivalent, notturno, such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's quadraphonic Notturno in D, K.286, written for four lightly echoing separated ensembles of paired horns with strings, and his Serenata Notturna, K. 239. At this time, the piece was not necessarily evocative of the night, but might merely be intended for performance at night, much like a serenade.

Internet Connection vs Me II

It kept annoying me. I started to do some more research. While I was disconnected, I can mostly ping the default gateway. But not to the other side of the router. Completely out of the blue, I got the idea that there might be another 192.168.1.1 (default gateway's ip address) sitting in the network. I even scanned the network using Angry IP scanner aka ipscan-3.0-beta4. But no interesting information. So, I browsed the Internet and found out interesting things about arp command. ARP stands for Address Resolution Protocol. In every PC's network protocol stack, ARP maintains a cache of IP address-to-media access control address mappings for future use.

When I viewed the IP to MAC address list in my PC, one MAC address is belonged to the ip address of the default gateway. At that time, I was enjoying the Internet. It's been a while and the problem came up. Then I checked the arp cache, and there was another MAC address associated with 192.168.1.1. I was not able to connect to websites at all. According to the previous experience, I repaired the connection until I got the connection back. When the connection was restored, the MAC address again became the first one.

I continued playing with the commands, arp -a and arp -d. It was confirmed that the second MAC address was the main source of the problem. Anyway that connection is shared among the tenants of the building and I have no idea which crazy bastard has that IP address. So, I have to tackle it from my part. I waited another day making sure that the first MAC address owns. And I put a static arp record at the startup linking the first MAC address to the IP address, 192.168.1.1 (The command is arp -s 192.168.1.1 xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx). And since then, the problem never come back.

The reason that let me connect sometimes and that barred is because of the ARP lifetime. This following explanation is from MS Technet about ARP cache.

The ARP cache

To minimize the number of broadcasts, ARP maintains a cache of IP address-to-media access control address mappings for future use. The ARP cache can contain both dynamic and static entries. Dynamic entries are added and removed automatically over time. Static entries remain in the cache until the computer is restarted.

Each dynamic ARP cache entry has a potential lifetime of 10 minutes. New entries added to the cache are timestamped. If an entry is not reused within 2 minutes of being added, it expires and is removed from the ARP cache. If an entry is used, it receives two more minutes of lifetime. If an entry keeps getting used, it receives an additional two minutes of lifetime up to a maximum lifetime of 10 minutes.

1,200 Thais likely to die of flu

Up to 30 million Thais are likely to contract influenza type-A (H1N1) and up to 1,200 people could possibly die from it, the Public Health Ministry says.

Of those who contract the virus, only 30,000-130,000 would have symptoms serious enough to warrant hospital admission, said Prasert Thongcharoen, chairman of the ministry's subcommittee overseeing the response to the A (H1N1) flu outbreak.

The figures are based on the panel's estimate that the pandemic will last from one to three years.

Internet Connection vs Me

This internet connection is killing me. Mostly, I can surf the Internet or download files at ease. Though, it is disrupted and I am disconnected occasionally. When it happens, I have got nothing to do but repairing the connection several times. Yeah, several times. I mean it. Never a single repair restores the connection. I have been looking for the solution. I have tried setting a fixed IP for the connection, using OpenDNS servers as my primary and secondary servers instead of the router. None of these helped. I even doubted that it has got problems with the router. It is quite a nuisance.

Friends TV Series

In the second week of May, I started watching Friends. I got the DVDs from the friend who borrowed me Prison Break series. At that time, I had some other series as well, like Lost and Hero, though I didnt get the complete season. Anyway, after I spent some time checking all those series, I ended up watching Friends, which is quite funny and interesting compared to the other twos I had. Each episode can make everyone laugh and smile all the time.

Rachel Green is a former popular student way in her high school days. Rachel is a spoiled yet pretty bubbly rich princess. She enjoys spending her father's money, not thinking of tomorrow. As her introduction on the show, where she walked-out from her wedding with Barry Finkle with her reason "Because I was more turned on by a gravy boat". Because of the incident, her allowance was totally cut and seems the end of her Princess days. Now, she must learn her life of her own. Rachel now facing the life with the real world. Since all of her credit cars are off, she seek for a job and have one in Central Perk where the rest of the gang hung out for a couple of years. Rachel got pregnant with Ross Gellar whom she had a one night stand after being drunk and resulted to an angel. Rachel gave birth to baby girl named Emma. Ross and Rachel got married and annulled. But on its finale, the two still ended together and got married again.

Dr. Ross Geller is Monica's brother who happened to be his parents favorite. There is an endless competition between Monica and Ross but still they love each other on their own ways. Ross is a professional paleontologist living on his apartment with the love of his life, Rachel.

Monica Geller-Bing is the younger sister of Ross whom she battles from the attention of their parents. Monica is a chef, married to her new husband, Chandler Bing. The rest of her pals enjoys teasing her for being an obese on her younger days. She had a twins named after her parents.

Chandler Muriel Bing originally worked in corporate data processing and later on an advertising firm. Among the gang, he was considered for being the most desperate bachelor. Chandler uses his humor as a defense mechanism. He has an ambiguous relation with his room-mate Joey Tribbiani. Chandler got married with Monica.

Phoebe Buffay-Hannigan, who has many principles, is known as a eccentric yet smart who is great in playing guitar. As the episode goes, the story of her life reveals. She has a one minute older twin sister. She is also a vegetarian though she succumbs to her cravings for meat during her pregnancy.


Joseph "Joey" Francis Tribbiani, Jr is a simple-minded who came from an Italian American family of eight. He is something of an idiot savant in matters of romance, which generated the popular catchphrase "How you doin'?" Joey has a career in acting that has been marked by both success and humiliating failure. His roles varied from neurosurgeon on a popular soap opera to being the headshot in a public health poster for VD. Joey's agent was Estelle Leonard, a brash, smoking woman who has only one other client besides Joey.

Online game shops found to be flu hubs

In Thailand, it has been identified online game shops as major transmission point for influenza type-A(H1N1) virus among children, who make up the largest group of flu infections. Children are now having a five-day long holiday which just started Saturday. They love to hang out at the online game shops. And many children stay there overnight. Deputy Public Health Minister said he would like to see the online game shops closed during the holidays to limit H1N1 infections. And he continued, if the shop closures is not possible, he will send health authorities to talk to shop owners on how to improve hygiene measures. He called on game shop operators to clean their computers with disinfectant.

Installing NS2 on Cygwin

Download NS2 package from http://www.isi.edu/nsnam/ns/. For me, I just downloaded the allinone package. And the version is 2.33. Recently, 2.34 is released on June 17, 2009.

After downloading the file, put it under C:\cygwin\home\username. Then open bash shell by running the shortcut from the desktop or from the start menu. Go to home\username and run the command, "tar xvfz ns-allinone-2.33.tar.gz".

After extracting files, run ./install.

When the installation finishes, the files can be checked by using the command, ./validate.

Finally, .bashrc is needed to be changed a bit to add environment variables. It is located under C:\cygwin\home\username\.bashrc. I added the following lines at the end of the file.

Preparing Cygwin for NS2 Part II

Continual of Preparing Cygwin for NS2

1. The installation process begins by running setup.exe.


2. Choose "Install from Local Directory".


3. Then, choose the directory to install Cygwin. It is the best to leave cygwin default directory C:\cygwin. Though you may change to the one you prefer, it should not include space like this C:\cygwin for ns2. And it must be noted that the username that used to login that Windows systems should not include a space. If the username has a space, refer to this page.


3. The directory that downloaded files are placed. By default, cygwin remembers where they are downloaded.


4. Finally, choose the packages by clicking the View button and changing it to Full. Then click on every item that has been marked Skip. Though some of the packages are downloaded, they are still marked as Skip unless there is a version of the package displayed.

So-hwi’s father comes to a showdown with Heuk-bong, but the battle leaves him fatally injured. On the brink of her father’s death, So-hwi picks up a sword again with a burning desire for revenge.

3 out of 5 stars. It is a funny movie. Though I dont know why some of the plots are similar to The Classic(i.e., Ilyoung using his jacket to cover themselves from rain). And the songs are really nice. If you wish to listen to them, just download at the following link.

Preparing Cygwin for NS2

Things getting easier these days as there are references out there. Though, I had to spend several days to get this NS2 running. I have Windows XP SP3. And went to cygwin website and downloaded setup.exe. Then created a cygwin setup folder and put that setup.exe in it.

1. Cygwin version is 2.573.2.3.


2. I chose "Download Without Installing" so that I can install/reinstall cygwin files in a few minutes.


3. Locate the folder to store downloaded files.


4. Choose the correct option according to the Internet connection.


5. Choose the top one unless you have a good one.


6. Then, the program starts downloading package-list.


7. The following screen will be shown when package list is downloaded. Though, it is needed to change View to Full by clicking View button.


8. There is a list of default packages checked to be downloaded. However, they are not sufficient to run NS2, mainly NAM. Some packages are needed to added. The list is below the screenshot.

There is something important while choosing X11 packages. When I was about to download files, I looked for websites which I can refer to. I only found pages those refer to download XFree86-base, XFree86-bin, XFree86-prog, XFree86-lib, etc. As XFree86 related are not available in the list, X11 must be chosen. So, I checked above packages to download. It is possible that it is not needed to download some of the packages from X11. For me, I would not bother testing this as this configuration works. =)

9. Finally, click next to download the files. Sometimes, there might be a Yes/No dialog box saying the download is not complete, whether you want to download again or not. Just say Yes.

This is the downloading part of cygwin and the installation part will be followed.
